Abstract:Objective To achieve the goal of ideological and political education in local application-oriented colleges and universities, and to educate more high-quality and high-skilled civil professionals for the society.Methods Taking Structural Mechanics, an important basic course for civil engineering majors in application-oriented undergraduate colleges as an example, and taking into account the characteristics and the ideological and political elements of the course, we strive to enrich the teaching methods of the course, establish the ideological and political teaching case database, hold disciplinary competitions and improve teachers’ ideological and political level,so as to subtly integrate ideological and political elements into the teaching of Structural Mechanics.Results The above-mentioned teaching measures have improved the students’ enthusiasm for this course, fostered their consciousness of innovation and craftsmanship, and sharpened their sense of social responsibility.Conclusions Through external introduction and internal training, teachers'' ideological and political teaching is gradually improved, the classroom teaching results are improved, and the goal of ideological and political education is achieved.
