Based on the investigation into farmers’awareness about farmland protection in Xichang City, it is found that a considerable number of farmers have already recognized the importance of farmland protection, but they do not hold themselves as the main body of protecting farmland, and the government also needs to strengthen the work to protect farmland. In this paper, the authors put forward such suggestions as establishing economic compensation and operation mechanism for farmland protection, and bringing farmland protection performance into the evaluation for government officials in order to consolidate the government’s land management functions and increase farmers’awareness of farmland protection.
