Abstract ; The goal of talent training in the construction of "New Engineering" puts forward higher-level requirements forthe culivation of talents and the innovation of thinking.In the new era , the implementation of the national rural revitaliza-tion strategy poses increasing demand for talents majoring in urban and rural planning.For colleges and universities locatedin ethnic areas ,if the talents they cultivate can both work in relatively backward areas and perform competently , the respon-sibility of colleges and universities to serve local economic and social development will be highlighted.Using matrix distri-bution and statistics , this paper takes the changes in curricuhum in the urban and rural planning majors in the past threeyears in Xichang University as examples and examines their compatilility to the goal of talent training.Through the analysisof the research resuls , it is believed that urban and nural planning majors must keep pace with the times and make scientif-ic innovation ; local development trends and local context must be taken into account for the planning of prolessional talenttraining;courses related to local development should be added into the talent training process to optimize the structure ofthe curriculum;teaching method emphasizing application and practice should be promoted in the teaching process.With thealkove measures , the professional ability of students majoring in urban and rural planning will be enhanced in order to betterserve the local development.
