There are still many problems in the environmental design major of Local Application oriented universities, which needs reform. There are many famous universities in developed areas of eastern China. These universities have many academic lectures and exhibitions of design, and the teaching hardware is very good. The teaching mode of environmental design is different from that in the west of China. Students in the eastern region have an international perspective. Because of the economic and traffic reasons, the local universities in the west do not have good conditions, but they have their own characteristics. The local colleges and universities in Western China should reform the training mode of professional talents, improve teaching conditions and professional teaching plans, set up specialized courses reasonably, and strengthen the construction of train base inside and outside of the university. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen the construction of the teaching staff, and introduce the national culture into the specialized courses, so that the quality of the applied talents is higher.
